Did you know that bloggers can contribute to global warming, too? Yes, you heard that right! Bloggers’ use of the internet results in carbon emissions that can cause environmental damage. A blog with 15,000 visits a month has a yearly carbon dioxide emission of 8lb. To neutralize these emissions, Make it green! (MIG), a young team in Germany created “My blog is carbon-neutral” buttons so that bloggers can show that they care about the environment and the carbon footprint of their blogs.

How does MIG neutralize your blog’s carbon footprint?
The MIG team, in cooperation with the Arbor Day Foundation in Plumas National Forest in Northern California, is planting trees to neutralize the carbon footprint of blogs. Thousands of wildfires burned down many national forests over the past ten years, and 88.000 acres of Plumas National Forest were destroyed by two fires in 2007. To help replanting, the MIG team needs the support of bloggers all over the world! For every participating blog, the team plants a tree.

Why does the MIG team do this?
The MIG team is part of a German-based company called kaufDA, which provides advertisement brochures of local stores online to help consumers search for specific products and find good deals in their neighborhood. This reduces the amount of brochures printed, and the project helps the environment by reducing unnecessary paper in mailboxes. Now, hear this: An American on average receives 41 pounds of junk mail per year. This has the same carbon footprint as burning six gallons of gasoline!

Show that you care about our environment by joining this movement. I just did! To find out how you can participate, please visit http://www.kaufda.de/umwelt/carbon-neutral/how-you-can-join.

1 pensive thought/s:

Being an environmentalist myself, I've been thinking about how I contribute to global warming by staying too long in the computer blogging. Thanks for the info, sis. It makes me feel guilty(: Okay, I will join the cause. But definitely, even if I won't join it, I already have a plan that my family esp the kids will plant beautiful flowering trees soon. It's good to teach them how in their own simple way can help save the Earth.
