Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a mineral fiber commonly used in building construction materials. Mesothelioma happens because there are negligent and irresponsible corporations that allow their workers to be exposed to harmful and toxic substances. If you are one of those suffering from this disease because of the kind of work that you do, you might want to seek legal counsel. Through the help of a mesothelioma lawyer, you can file a lawsuit that can ease your financial burdens.

I went to the preview night of The Red Shoes at The Podium last night primarily because the venue is walking distance from our place. The second reason I went is because I was curious about the film. To be honest, I haven’t seen a poster of the movie prior to last night's screening, so I was absolutely clueless about it. Thanks, Nuffnang, for the invite!

The Brains behind the Movie
The Red Shoes is directed by Raul Jorolan, written by Jayel Ladioray, and presented by Unico Entertainment. Set in the post-Marcos era, it is a story of “love, aspiration and new hope amid changing fortunes and the country’s fickle, contemporary history.”

Synopsis
Lucas (Marvin Agustin) stole a pair of former first lady Imelda Marcos’ shoes when he was a little boy and gave it to the two most important women in his life, his mother (Liza Lorena) and his childhood sweetheart Bettina (Nikki Gil). The story started with that pair of red shoes and ended with the same pair (with a twist!). The characters in the story are represented by their favorite shoe color. The main theme is moving on, which the main character Lucas has finally learned to do when he decided to change the color of his shoes in the end.

My Review
The screenplay was well-written, the actors/actresses gave a fine performance, and the movie is loaded with metaphors, which make it doubly interesting to watch. The Red Shoes opens on March 10, 2010.

Incidentally, I also met Pie in last night’s movie preview, and she took this photo of us.

I hope to see her again in future events.

Because a medical transcription (MT) career was touted as the next best thing a few years ago, I took up an MT course in 2004. Since I graduated with a non-science degree, I had to learn everything from scratch. I have to digest chunks of information in three months’ time learning about human anatomy, laboratory tests, medical procedures, and medical instruments among others. Prior to taking my MT course, an oximeter sounded alien to me. After getting my certificate of completion, however, I now know that an oximeter is an instrument that measures the oxygen saturation of arterial blood. Whew! I did learn something, right?

There are no classes in my son’s school today to give way to their third and final Parent-Teacher Conference for this school year. I was late for work because I have to talk to Justin’s teachers about his progress in school.

According to his teachers, Justin now enjoys being in school and mingling with his classmates and other kids. Justin is also not shy around people, and he is not picky when it comes to his friends; he talks to everybody. He has also become more confident speaking the English language. Further, he has mastered his ABCs and can read CVCs (consonant-vowel-consonant words, e.g., cat, dog, bug). His teachers said he’s good in Math, too, because he can count until 30. This is already old news because he learned to do this even before we enrolled him in Nursery class.

On the other hand, Justin’s teachers observed that he’s a bit malikot (wriggly), moving his hands and feet too often that he ends up unintentionally nudging or bumping his classmates when they’re sitting on the blue line inside their classroom. One of his teachers said that perhaps he’s just too happy and excited to be in school, and that’s how he acts out his feelings. He is also not too keen on sharing a toy that he likes, and if another toy catches his fancy, he wants to have it right away even if another kid is still playing with it. In short, my son has yet to learn the virtue of patience.

That’s how my meeting with my son’s teachers went. Now, back to work!

In our attempt to make our homes safe for our kids, we see to it that sharp objects are out of children’s sight and reach. But accidents happen no matter how careful we think we are. What if in your haste to move onto your next task, you unmindfully left a knife or a box cutter somewhere in the house and your kid got a hold of it? I bet you’ll be worried to death, but not if your cutting tools at home have safety features. So be a wise buyer next time. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Hubby and I made sure to buy a CD of lullabies for our little boy so he’ll have sound, restful sleep every day. We found a very good one, the Bless My Little Boy CD, a collection of gentle lullabies that nurture and soothe infants and toddlers (and moms) any time of the day. While all of the songs in this CD are nice, there is one song that I really like because it expresses a mother’s tender, loving thoughts for his son. I still sing this song to my son even if he’s turning four this July because he is and will always be my “Sweet Baby Boy.”

Sweet Baby Boy
Sung by: Rita Baloche
Composed by: Martin Nystrom and Nancy Gordon

There’ll be hooks and worms
And old fishing poles
Cowboys and Indians
Digging for gold

There’ll be rocks and sticks
And little black bugs
Grubby old kisses
And great big bear hugs

Little boy, little boy
You’re my sweet, you’re my sweet baby boy
You’re a treasure of love
That’s brought a world full of joy
You’re my wonderful, wonderful
You’re my sweet baby boy
My sweet baby boy

There’ll be rocks and balls
And little skinned knees
Spinning and running
And climbing up trees

Soon tomorrow will be here
With so much to do
Surprises are waiting
For me and for you.

Little boy, little boy
You’re my sweet, you’re my sweet baby boy
You’re a treasure of love
That’s brought a world full of joy
You’re my wonderful, wonderful
You’re my sweet baby boy

What about you? What song expresses your deep love for your kids?

Do you know what I like about attending trade shows, seminars, product launches, or bloggers’ events? Various promotional items are being given away! These items are usually imprinted with the company’s name or logo for marketing/advertising purposes. Ballpens, tote bags, key chains, tumblers, mugs, planners, and umbrellas are some of the promotional gifts/products that I have received so far and have shared with family and friends.

It was my husband who pointed out that Mr. Fu lived in the same condo as we. Because I haven’t been listening to the radio or watching TV that much, I really had no idea who Mr. Fu is. The first time I listened to his radio program Hi Pangga at 91.5 Energy FM was when we were riding a taxi going to Makati Med for my son’s (or is it hubby’s?) checkup. That was how I also became familiar with his famous tagline: “Me ganon!”

We have met him in the hallway and have ridden in the same elevator with him quite a number of times already. That’s because we’re just a few condo units away from where he lives. I like the fact that he’s very warm and friendly. He would always smile at us whenever we see him. He would often converse with our son, too.

Just when we were about to get inside our unit after we attended the Bisolvon Supermoms Blog Event last Saturday, we saw Mr. Fu in the hallway. By this time, my son already knows his tagline, too.

Mommy: Justin, there’s Mr. Fu. What will you tell him?

Justin: (Shyly) Me ganon?

Mr. Fu: Hi! Ay, wait! I have something for you. (He went inside his unit to get something. When he went back, he had a Toblerone bar for Justin.)

Mommy: What will you say, baby?

Justin: Thank you.

Mommy: Mr. Fu, is it okay if I take a picture of you with my son?

Mr. Fu: Sure!

Because he’s so accommodating, I became an instant fan.

I don’t know about you, but going on a cruise is something I’d like to experience in my lifetime. I don’t have any idea yet how to begin saving up for that dream vacation, but I’ll get there somehow.

There are many reasons why people go on a cruise vacation. Some choose to cruise to see different places, to spend time with their families, to taste various cuisines, or to simply have time for themselves. Others choose to cruise to find their one true love.

That’s not a bad idea if you ask me, especially if you’re going on a singles cruise where your chances of finding your Prince Charming or Lady Love are greater. However, you need to have a good strategy to accomplish your objective.

1. Get noticed. Make an extra effort to look good, but don’t overdo everything. Wear something nice and decent. Spray just enough cologne/perfume to pique men/women’s curiosity. Don a few occasion-appropriate accessories to complement your outfit.
2. Smile. Smiling is contagious. When you smile, people are enticed to smile back. According to Mother Theresa, “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” You’ll win friends when you smile, one of whom can be the man/woman of your dreams.
3. Socialize. You won’t get anywhere if you don’t mingle with the crowd. Go where the action is. Strike a conversation with people you find interesting and introduce yourself.
4. Pray. Pray that you made a very good impression on the people that you meet, pray that you’ll find the love you’re looking for before your cruise is over, and pray that what you’ll find won’t just be a fleeting romance, but something for keeps.

So yes, finding true love on a cruise is hard, but not impossible.

My son enjoyed the fun activities for kids at the Bisolvon Supermoms Blog Event, but I couldn’t share all of his pictures in my previous post, so I thought of writing another post now solely intended for my son’s happy moments at the event.

I hope there’ll be more blog events for moms and kids, and I hope we get invited again.

We (hubby, me, Justin, and my sister Me-ann) attended a fun-filled supermoms’ blog event at Blue Whale Grill, Fun Ranch, Ortigas, Pasig. Ms. Regine Tolentino, the event’s host, talked about the joys of being a supermom. She even delighted the crowd with her dance number with her daughters. There were also exciting activities for the kids, such as artworks, face painting, Nintendo Wii, and Fun Ranch rides.

We celebrated Valentine’s Day a day earlier, February 13, because that’s a Saturday, and Saturday is our official mall day.

It was our first time at Trinoma Mall, so we were all excited. Trinoma is very similar to Glorietta Mall, another mall built and operated by the Ayala Group of Companies, except that this mall resembles the shape of a triangle, hence the name "TriNoMa," which means "Triangle North of Manila."

Our son had a blast playing at the mall’s playground.

Enjoying the slide

Our little Spidey

After playing, we felt like cooling down with Dairy Queen treats.

Loving my Heart Dilly Bar

“I’m busy, Mom; talk to you later.”

Then, we had an early dinner at Abe Restaurant. “Abe” (ah-beh) is a Capampangan word for “friend,” “companion,” and “getting together.” It is also the restaurant dedicated to Larry Cruz’s father, the late artist-writer, gourmet and bon vivant Emilio Aguilar “Abe” Cruz.

Lamb Adobo with Popped Garlic, Php395.00

My Mother’s Rellenong Mais, Php196

Dalandan Shake and Four Seasons Shake, Php105.00 each

Because Justin didn’t want to eat, hubby and I ended up gobbling up everything we ordered. Hubby managed to take a snapshot of mother and son, though.

”Is this good enough, Mommy?”

Oh, by the way, Abe serves all-you-can-eat rice. That's good news for huge rice eaters like me. LOL! After eating, we stayed a while longer to see more of Trinoma.

Fountain-happy!

Racing with Daddy

We went home tired but happy. Thanks to hubby for that special Valentine's date.

How about you? How did you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Web hosting is an Internet service that allows individuals or organizations to put up their own website. Utmost care should be taken when choosing a web hosting provider because inefficient web hosting services can negatively affect a personal or an e-commerce website.

I only learned about web hosting when I became a blogger. I also didn’t realize that I have another option aside from free web hosting. Now I know better! If, like me, you are looking for a reliable and affordable web hosting provider for your blog or business site, you might want to check out Doteasy. This site offers flexible hosting services that cater to every website owner’s needs.

Their free web hosting plan can help you get your new website rolling. If you feel the need to upgrade your account, that option is also made available for you. They also have an unlimited hosting plan, which provides unlimited disk/data capacity, scripting and database tools, and SSL support for only $9.95 a month.

Do you want to hear more good news? Both web hosting packages are banner-free. This means your website will remain clean and professional-looking. Setup fee is also free in both plans. If you’re interested, you can click here to sign up for free hosting.

Justin’s class is dismissed at 11:30am. Before, I just fetch him from school and we go straight home. This allows me more time to do administrative tasks or work on a writing assignment. I realized, however, that I have been depriving my son of more playtime with his classmates and friends after class. That made me really guilty. I have resolved to give him more time after school every day to play in their school playground. He is particularly fond of the sandbox.

That’s my son with his current favorite classmate/friend Maxine. This photo was taken last Friday when they celebrated Chinese New Year in school and they had to wear Chinese costume.

One of the best gifts I received on my last birthday was a tiny blue book called Memo ni Mommy: Mga Kaalamang Pampasigla ng Pamilya by Bessie A. Rios. The book, intended for parents and everyone else who works with kids, provides helpful tips on raising children. It has 45 memos all in all, which cover the following topics: training for life, enhancing family relationships, cultivating self-confidence, influencing behavior, harnessing social skills, school boosters, health and wellness, managing financial challenges, and responding to parenting challenges. The way the book was written, in English-Tagalog, sprinkled with a dash of humor here and there, makes it more interesting to read.

Mommy Bessie (Blesilda A. Rios, Ph.D.) is an advocate of appropriate parenting. She has a radio program, Memo ni Mommy, which has been broadcast over at DZAS for the past 14 years. She has a master’s degree in Family Life and Child Development (U.P. Diliman) and in Christian Leadership (Asian Theological Seminary) and a doctorate degree in Education Administration (U.P. Diliman). She also co-founded the Center for Early Childhood Care and Development and the Master’s Vineyard Academy. She is an engineer’s wife and a mom to her two sons: a lawyer and a computer programmer.

Note: This is not a paid post. I simply love this book, period!

Accessories can do a lot to improve one’s look. Lately, I’ve been on the lookout for eye-catching but reasonably priced bracelets or bangles to complement my otherwise drab outfit. I think they work! People always have good things to say about the accessories I wear. I now own six bracelets, and I intend to add more to my growing collection.

BillyTheTree.com can help me get started on my latest endeavor. This is a family-owned corporation that offers a wide selection of magnetic and sterling silver jewelry. They have a 30-day (or more) satisfaction guarantee on all jewelry, and they offer free shipping of all items worldwide. Wow! Shopping for jewelry has never been this fun!

Guess what? I found a copper bracelet that I really like. It’s a magnetic therapy bracelet with turquoise rectangles. This copper bracelet is very slim and elegant, just the way I like it, and it’s now on sale! I should call my husband now. It’s never too late to ask for a Valentine gift, right?

I completed a writing task today, and I used an oh-so-familiar title. When I checked my Excel file that lists all of the writing opportunities I’ve worked on, I had the shock of my life when I saw that I’ve already used the same title in one of my previous posts. What’s worse? I used the same title for two different tasks that I made for the same pay-you-to-blog site. Although the products and the article titles are the same, my articles have different contents because they focus on two different web hosting providers that have different anchor texts and links. I’m hoping this won’t affect the approval of my most recently submitted work. Has this ever happened to you?

If you’re looking for a web hosting provider for your blog or business site, WebHostingRating can help you get started. This website provides the latest information on web hosting providers, web hosting awards, web hosting deals, and customer web host reviews among others.

You’ll definitely learn a lot by browsing through the site. For instance, did you know that you can lose your site ranking when you re-design your website? That’s because your search engine ranking is tied up with your current website architecture. When the architecture is altered, your site ranking is also affected. Renaming URLs and moving links change the ranking of your site because some pages may become unavailable and may cause broken links.

It’s also interesting to know that there are several web hosting plans available for customers, the most affordable of which is shared web hosting. The cost is lower compared to others because multiple website owners share one central server. To help you decide if this is the best web hosting option for you, you need to consider three things: price, support, and security.
