Blepharospasm is the technical term for eye twitching or eye spasms. It’s when your eyelid muscles contract involuntarily, resulting in vision problems or eyelid twitches. Some causes of eyelid twitching are lack of sleep, fatigue, stress, exposure to TV or computer screens, allergies, vitamin deficiency, anxieties or phobias, over-consumption of caffeine, adverse effects of drugs, and neurological disorders. There are various treatment options for eye twitching, such as taking vitamin supplements for the eye, BOTOX medication and therapy, and surgery. However, prevention is still the best cure. You should get plenty of rest, reduce your caffeine intake, and have your eyes checked at least once a year to ensure optimum eye health. Make sure you consult your doctor immediately if eye twitching becomes too bothersome.
