Computer-aided design, known as CAD, is the process of designing products or geometric shapes using a computer. CAD software is used to create and modify an object to see how it will look like once it is built. The end products are called CAD drawings.

Before CAD was invented, building plans were drawn by hand, which was time-consuming and required more workers. Everything is done more quickly now with the introduction of the CAD software.

These days, CAD drawings are used widely by engineering, industrial, architectural, and manufacturing firms. Some companies commission CAD artists to come up with the product designs that they need, while others make use of free downloadable CAD drawings.
