Nanay’s coronary angiogram was done at 9am today. She was brought back to her room at 11am, still groggy from the anesthesia. There was pressure dressing in her right groin where the catheter was inserted. A sandbag was also placed above the catheter insertion site for added pressure to prevent hematoma and/or bleeding. When her cardiologist arrived 2 hours later, he asked us if we’d like to have the results discussed in Nanay’s room or somewhere else. My sister and I chose to talk to the doctor in another room.

The prognosis is not good. Eighty to ninety percent of Nanay’s heart is blocked. Three coronary arteries are affected. The cardiologist said the problem cannot be solved by angioplasty. He is not too keen on bypass surgery either, although he said he’d consult with the heart surgeon about this option. As I was writing this post, the cardiologist texted me the heart surgeon’s opinion on the matter. He said bypass surgery might work. That gave us a glimmer of hope, but the cost of the surgery is something we can’t afford. He said we’ll be needing Php400,000.00 to Php450,000.00 for the entire surgical procedure.

We’re at a stalemate here. We’re not sure what to do next. We really don’t know if the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) can help. If there’s anybody out there who knows, please be kind enough to inform us. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

3 pensive thought/s:

Hello Mommy! I understand your situation. we've been there when my Papa had kidney failure and needed to undergo dialysis twice in a week before. Just imagine how much it costs us. It wasn't a one time payment but back then we needed atleast 5 thousand each week to cover his sessions plus meds.

Anyway, yes, PCSO will help.we also sought help from them before. Also try asking you mayor's office, i'm sure me allotment yan sila for health and medical cases like that of your Nanay.

I believe yung mga pasubok na ganyan is a test of faith. Malalagpasan nyo rin lahat yan. Be strong! Count my prayers for your Nanay's fast recovery.

sorry about that sis.I feel bad because I can't do anything of any help, all I can do is to pray for your mom and for your family to get thru with this.

hi! my father had a kidney transplantation at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, since we couldn't afford the full price for the transplant, we seek help from the hospital's social service department and they helped us with the expenses. i know that there is also a social service department at the philippine heart center. just informed the social worker about your family's predicament and they might be able to help you with the expenses. i know that they get some funding from the PCSO.
